Harmonious House With A Pure White Exterior And Wonderful Views
Located in Óbidos, Portugal, this stunning residence is a project completed in 2018 by studio [i]da arquitectos. It sits just meters from the Obidos Lagoon and it gets to enjoy magnificent views. The orientation and structure of the spaces were specifically created to take advantage of everything this site has to offer. With a total of 272 square metes of living space, the house is organized into two main volumes. There’s a daytime area and a nighttime area and the’re both equally beautiful. The social spaces form the day zone and are clustered on a single floor with easy access outdoors while the private areas, a gym and a home office form the night zone, being spread across two floors.
The entire exterior of the house is white and that gives it a very pure and minimalistic lookWood is a major component in the design of the house, inside and outThe contrast between crisp white ceiling, polished floor and the warm wood on the walls is a very pleasant oneThe two main zones of the house are clearly delineated but don’t necessarily contrast with each other
To the South the house overlooks the Natural Ecological Reserve Park and its main spaces are oriented towards it, taking advantage of the abundant sunlight which comes in through the large windows as well as the strong relationship with the beautiful landscape which they frame. There are two entrances, one defined by a horizontal opening and the other by a vertical opening, both clad in wood which by the way is the dominant materials featured all throughout the residence. Furthermore, the rooftop acts as a large terrace, emphasizing the bond between architecture and nature even more.
The house has two garden areas. The one to the South has a swimming poolThe backyard pool is framed by vegetation and a casual wooden deck areaThe second garden is oriented to the North and has vegetables, herbs, flowers and treesBoth gardens look very beautiful and allow the house to enjoy a close connection with the outdoorsThe neatly organized vegetable and herb planters give the Northern garden a lovely suburban vibeAs mentioned before, wood is a dominant material throughout the house and that includes the outdoor areasThe living spaces have sliding glass doors which connect them to the deck and gardenInside, the house has a simple and modern design defined by pure and natural materialsThe living room is casual and inviting, with comfortable furniture and matching accent pillowsThe corner fireplace emphasizes the overall flexible and open interior designThe palette of colors is mostly focused around warm neutrals with the occasional cool nuance for contrastThe kitchen has an island with a dining table extension, an ideal combo for modern spaces designed for entertainmentThe kitchen and dining area seamlessly merge into one, with a clear distinction in the type of flooringThe fireplace wall doubles as a space divider, separating the living room from the kitchen areaThe bedrooms are decorated with cool and relaxing shades of blue complemented by neutralsThe bathrooms have small windows which are actually very commonThe beautiful views over the lagoon and the park are also a part of the private rooms’ decorOverall, this is a house full of contrasts which somehow manages to be incredibly harmonious
