This deVOL Shaker Kitchen is on a big scale, yet it still seems to feel comfortable and homely and has the clever ability to feel both industrial and a little bit country chic. The big extraction unit sits perfectly next to the very domesticated Smeg Victoria range cooker and the grand brass pot filler. It’s the mix of concrete floors, brick walls and soft tones in the wooden worktops and copper sink that make this kitchen such a clever combination.

This long sink run turns the corner just a little before meeting the old sash windows and original low window sill. The sink run is a combination of our standard Shaker base cabinets and includes a single bin. The corner cupboard has an additional carcass on the side of the cabinet, making full use of the corner space and creating a nice big work area. The original old window sill behind the sink is a little lower than our standard cabinets but, using Silestone upstands, it keeps the run neat and the work surface contained and easy to keep clean.

The walls in this part of the building are very wonky, but with some very careful scribing, it’s quite possible to achieve a neat fitted look on both wall and base cupboards. Keeping the colours of the cupboards and worktops light makes the room feel spacious and bright, even though there isn’t much natural light from the windows.

Warm colours of umber and beautiful objects with a history create a feeling of homely comforts and a love of cooking. This kitchen was designed to show you how just the simplest of runs as a starting point can turn into a totally authentic and atmospheric kitchen when you choose the right combination of colours and styling. A wall of panels and heritage glass was painted and then aged to give a feeling of time and allow sunlight to stream into even the darkest corners. This shadowy sunlight against the warm mellow yellow of the walls has given this room a beautiful ambience and cleverly turned a dark space into a peaceful and magical kitchen.

This room was not originally the kitchen, but choosing this light filled space to become the new kitchen was such a great decision, previously it had been situated at the side of the house in a darker long room which just wasn’t the kind of place you could entertain and just enjoy spending time in. The new room had really substantial original features that just made it feel grown-up and proper, wonderful high ceilings and heavy coving, big wide doors and sash windows and a beautifully weathered wooden floor with the shine of time giving it an authentic feel. The wall of fitted cupboards included a double pantry, full height fridge and freezer and cupboard storage, hiding away your appliances really gives the room a more furnished feel, less like a kitchen and more a living space, this certainly makes a kitchen more a living part of your home and the centre of the action rather than an afterthought or a place for doing chores. The table and chairs, the cut glass decanters and silver sugar bowl made this kitchen feel grand and important, the coloured cupboards, the bold tiles and the glamorous lighting were more playful, the mix worked perfectly. French doors led out onto a large wild and very pretty garden that was so private and sunny, you couldn’t have begun to imagine you were only few miles from central London, what a special place.

White metro tiles, lots of marble and an amazing polished concrete floor; this is a super stylish Shaker kitchen which works perfectly in this newly renovated Victorian property, where the owners have created a haven of cool tranquillity at the back of their house. The big and bright room seems to go on and on, from the drawing room at the front of the house you can see right through the kitchen, past the wall of glass into the back garden. The house sits slightly lower than the garden in a concrete bowl, making it a very private sun trap.

This kitchen is a great example of how you can use Shaker modular cupboards to create so many different looks and they work for all budgets too. The couple who own this kitchen put their heart and soul into making their home really special, they didn’t throw money at it they worked really hard and used their style and wisdom to make it something that takes your breath away.

A galley kitchen with a view through the most beautiful window onto the streets of Bath, this deVOL Kitchen is soft and warm, it is filled with light and the merest suggestion of styling. Painted knobs, a couple of Shaker shelves and a small spot to sit under the window. We don’t see so many wall cupboards these days, people tend to prefer open storage or shelving but when space is tight and you need to hide away your daily clutter, a wall cupboard or two is still a good option. Rosa and Rich managed to get the balance right, storage, wall cupboards, a little open space and a clutter-free room. It’s easy to make a room like this feel dark and long but with careful colours and a great layout, this room still feels spacious and airy with plenty of room to move around easily.

We love the way Rachel has made this deVOL Shaker Kitchen so personal, if you ever watched Rachel’s TV program you will appreciate the eclectic mix of kitchenware and homely feel she is so good at creating. The fresh and very on-trend green cupboards and beautiful tiles by Milagros, a Mexican tile shop on the fabulous Columbia Road in Bethnal Green, East London are such a clever mix.

The worktops are reclaimed Iroko school counter tops, Rachel sourced these herself, sanded back and oiled they looked smart and polished, rather than rustic and worn. The beautiful Aged Verdigris Brass Classic Handles were made here at Cotes Mill by Steph and they worked perfectly with the whole feel of the room, a mixture of old and new made it feel less ‘brand new kitchen!’ more ‘nicely settled and at home’ in her North London headquarters.

The styling in this room was centred around a beautifully renovated parquet floor; the warm colour of the woods on the floor, table and island all gave a lovely tactile feel to this kitchen. Hardwearing, light coloured Silestone worktops around the sink and cooker contrasted really well with the wood and gave the room a little touch of industrial to go with the selection of vintage lights hanging from the ceiling on chains which must have been close to 5 metres long. The ceilings were very high and, just to add to the atmosphere, there was an original minstrels’ gallery at one end of the room that gave a magnificent view of this very special kitchen.
