Modern House Resembles An Abstract Sculpture In The Midst Of The Forest
From the street there’s absolutely no glimpse inside this house. Three large concrete blocks frame a small entrance, creating a facade that’s completely closed off. At the back of the side, however, things are very different. Studio Querkopf Architekten were very specific in their design, wanting to give this modern villa the appearance of a large stone sculpture in perfect sync with its surroundings. This unique concrete house is located in Rosengarten, Germany and was recently completed earlier this year.
The rear side of the house opens up towards the outdoors and fully embraces the viewsIn contrast, the front facade is completely closed off for maximum privacy from the streetThe house has an underground car park and a very simple and abstract architectureThe ground floor is almost completely framed by full-height windows and sliding glass doors
As a general rule, this project reinterprets a lot of the classical ideas and design details and focuses a lot on the communion between architecture and landscape. The house is two-stories tall and has a sort of L-shaped floor plan which forms this outdoor terrace space sheltered from the wind and unwanted views.
A minimalist staircase appears to be floating against the dining room wall, connecting the two floors
Large openings and glass expanses open up the internal spaces towards the garden, pool area and the forest allowing natural light inside at the same time. The two floors are constantly contrasting with one another and this is reflected in the unique architecture of the house which is representative of its quirky style.
From the street the house showcases three large concrete blocks which blend together and make it look like a giant sculptureThe live edge dining table softens the harsh exposed concrete surfaces, adding warmth to the ground floorThe living areas form an L-shaped floor plan which shelters an intimate outdoor terraceThe minimalist kitchen opens up to the forest, featuring glass surfaces that let lots of light insideThe house enjoys a privileged location, being surrounded by lush greenery and this amazing forestThe overall aesthetic of the house is very simple and takes advantage of pure and basic materialsThe private section of the house focuses the views towards the forest, being closed off on other sidesBoth the interior and the exterior of the house are designed to complement the landscapeThe internal areas are simple but very harmonious, this being reflected in the select textures and colors usedIt’s wonderful and pretty amazing how the house manages to be so open and so closed off at the same timeThe double-height volume looks quite grandiose but maintains its modestyThe rear section of the house is made up of a steel and glass volume with a concrete box on top
