Use a Fresh Piece of Furniture or Unique Accessory To Update a Room

Let’s face it: Few of us have the time and budget to do a complete design overhaul when we want a fresh look at home. The good thing is that a room doesn’t need a top-to-bottom change for a fresh look. Much of the time, changing out a piece of furniture or some accessories gives a space some flair and extra style.  Of course, the pieces you choose make all the difference and they should have a unique look or feature that livens up the room. If you’re not sure what to look for, start by checking out these cool designs for furniture and accessories:

Furniture With a Unique Shape

When looking for a really distinctive piece of furniture, something like the Mary Bar Cabinet from Porada is what we have in mind. Gorgeous canaletta walnut is formed into a curved cabinet that has two separate compartments. The upper section — which has an “iced” glass detail that adds sparkle and dimension — is lined in lustrous brass. The interior is also fitted with a USB rechargeable LED light. The lower compartment has a shelf and is ideal for storing less often-used spirits and accessories.

Super Stylish Shelving

Mention shelving units and most people will automatically think of something pretty basic but today’s options go far beyond the ordinary. This is the Tube shelving unit designed by Norberto Delfinetti for Pacini&Cappellini. Modular designs offer more style and flexibility than traditional box-shaped shelving units. The Tube features multiple painted titanium elements that provide visual interest as well as support to the shelving. The veneered ash or canaletto walnut shelves can have different finishes ranging from matte lacquered style black stain or natural versions. This type of shelving adds a good deal of style to a living room, bedroom or entryway.

Artful Coffee Table

A surefire way to create a focal point in the living room is to choose an artful coffee table. Picking a design that is more than just a round or rectangular table brings far more interest to the living room. This Lily Coffee Table from Ginger and Jagger is an elegant example for a number of reasons. First, the three segments are of different sizes and heights, resembling lily pads in the water. Next, the stunning wood grain of the tabletops adds to the lily pad effect and shows of the masterful wood marquetry craftsmanship. Underneath it all is a base that is made of fig tree branches that were cast in brass, adding another natural element to the design. Designed and crafted in Porto, Portugal, the table is available in American Walnut, Ebony, Amara Ebony or Olive Ash wood veneer, and can be done with a matte or gloss finish.

A Table With Modern Proportions

A modern table is a great way to spice up a space, especially when the design is like this one. The Sunday collection of tables from LaChance of Paris includes this size of console along with dining tables and coffee tables. Each one features hefty marble legs and a slim, solid wood top that creates proportions with an interesting visual contrast. Designed by Jean-Baptiste, co-founder and art director of La Chance brand since 2012, the Sunday table comes in a variety of materials that can be mixed and matched: three types of marble and 2 choices of wood are available. program in a desk version

Sculptural Pieces

This space includes three amazing pieces from LaChance that bring modern proportions and fresh design to a room, starting with the Rocky Credenza. More sculpture than traditional console or credenza, Rocky’s design is a bit of an optical illusion that changes perspective depending on the viewing angle. Designed by Charles Kalpakian, the piece is crafted from steel by a single artisan and then polished and finished with a signature textured epoxy lacquer.

Another style of in-demand piece is the Salute table designed by Germany’s Sebastian Herkner. The occasional table has a strong personality and plenty of heft, making it ideal to sit next to your favorite chair. The mix of marble and metal creates a sculptural piece, which comes in three sizes in custom combinations of three types of marble for the base and four finishes for the tray.

A standing mirror is often used in the bedroom, but LaChance presents this design that is a more sculptural piece perfect for any room. The Iconic mirror is statuesque with its marble or oak pedestal. A metal cylinder intersects with the base as well as the mirror, adding an element of thickness. The oversized mirror was designed by Dan Yeffet of Israeli, Lucie Koldova from the Czech Republic.

Finally, a colorful modern option is the minimalist Zorro coffee table conceived by Note Design Studio. Inspired by the original masked hero, the Z-shaped chrome structure that supports it is topped with two overlapping tabletops. While it might look like two separate tables that nest together, it’s actually one single table with two round tops. Here, they are shown in a bright blue but they are also available in other materials like marble.

Upscale Floor Lamp

If you have a typical floor lamp that sports minimal style, it’s time for an upgrade to something with far more flair like the Pileo from Porada. The base comes in solid canaletta walnut or ash and has a dome-shaped tin-plated shade. Designed by Sovrappensiero, the wood can be stained in moka or wenge or finished with a matte lacquer that comes in a variety of colors. The Pileo is a contemporary floor lamp design that is very design-forward yet quite versatile in melding with different decor styles.

New Contemporary Console

Consoles are small tables that deliver big style when you choose the right design. The Fidelio console table by Roberto Lazzeroni for Poltrona Frau has a spare silhouette made with high-quality materials. Simplicity and refinement mean that a piece can go just about anywhere and fit in. The Fidelio is part of a collection that includes a low cabinet, chest of drawers, the side tables, and a lamp, all with similar aesthetics. The base is made from solid ash and support steel plates for mounting the top. Spacers made from brushed steel have a natural brass finish and are located under the top, which can be Emperador or Calacatta Gold marble. A custom option pairs birch plywood upholstered with Saddle Extra leather, with a matching Pelle Frau® leather base.

Smaller Accessories

Even smaller accessories can make an impact when you want to change the look of a room. Swap out the decor on a table or console for a fresh design like these Rips vases designed by Carina Seth Andersson for Poltrona Frau. Sure it’s a flower vase, but it is also a very sculptural piece that has design flair even when it is empty. The strong yet simple silhouette of the mouth-blown pale gray Venetian glass is elevated by the ripples that change direction as they cascade down the sides. The Rips vases are available in a large size at  24 cm and a height of 33 cm, and in a small size, 20 cm across and 27 cm high.

Unexpected Chair Design

You don’t have to be a sci-fi geek to want the Star Trek chair designed by Roberto Lazzeroni. Interesting chairs offer features that you don’t find on a typical mass-market seat. Adding cool chairs to the rooms in your home can really change the look of a space. This chair, designed for Ceccotti Collezioni, Italy in 1986, features solid American walnut legs with a seat and backrest made of upholstered plywood. The organic shape has a seductive quality and harks back to the form of Hans Wegner’s iconic Papa bear chair. The Star Trek chair is a comfortable piece that pays homage to its namesake television show in a very stylish way.

Statement Home Bar

Sometimes furniture exhibits its true dramatic nature when you open it up. Such is the case with the Never Full Sideboard by Roberto Lazzeroni for Ceccotti Collezioni. The piece comes in a low and a high version, both crafted from solid American walnut and veneered plywood. The sides and doors of the sideboard are paneled with strips of solid American walnut while the inside is crafted from maple. The Neverfull is ideal for use as a home bar, especially with the attractive interior that includes internal drawers and pull-out trays.
